Merging a registry key

Ands Allison

Hi there team.

It seems my PC has caught a virus! This virus has wped
out my .exe program association, so that when I click on
ANY .exe file, I get an error message saying:

QUOTE
Windows cannot find 'C:\program
files\ahead\aheadnero\nero.exe' Make sure you typed the
name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file,
click the start button, and click search.

I do not know what this virus is, but if you look at my
last message, then you will see it's symptoms.

I have downloaded a registry key which will apparently
restore the associations within Windows XP, allowing me
to open the EXE files once more, and then clean with
Norton.

Only problem is, that I am unable to merge this registry
key into the registry. When I double-click the file it
says:

QUOTE
Windows cannot find cxqz.exe. This program is needed for
opening files of type 'Registration Entries'.

Now I have seen cxqz somewhere, but can't remember where?
Maybe I accidentally deleted it? I cannot reboot windows
as this requires running an EXE file. Can anyone help on
where to find cxqz.exe?

Why can I not get this file from your windowws boot disk?
It does not appear to be in any of the cabinet files
either! I need to get the file cxqz.exe, otherwise it
would not seem that I can restore my machine, or can I?

Is there any way to restore the machine / Windows back to
it's original state? I have tries system restore, but
this errors as requires running an .exe file. Also have
tried boot disc but just goes back into windows and
ignores boot disk! Please help!

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers - Andrew

You have to press a key on the keyboard at startup if you
want to boot from the CD. You will get the option to
repair windows from the CD.
