What may be the cause and remedy that the menu that appears on the right
mouse button push in Windows Explorer showing hourglass for very long time
as it seems to me? I have windows xp home sp2.

I plucked up my heart at last and use ShellExView to check role of the
context menu handlers. As far as I have only 6 non-Microsoft handlers I
tried to disable them first one by one and then disabled them all, restart
computer...and nothing changed in any case. The most annoying part is that I
can't see any consistent pattern. There is no problem with exe files. I
have, for example, many pdf and doc files and some of them open quickly but
some show me the hourglass for 10-20 sec. It does not depend on size of
file.
So, is there any other idea?

I'm not all that familiar with .pdf files, but with the .doc files you
could go to Tools > Options > Save and see if 'Allow Fast Saves' is
checked, and uncheck it.

Also, do the slow files have graphics in them?

Then you could do a thorough spyware and virus scan, to eliminate all bugs
and intruders from your system.

I am sure there are no viruses or spyware in my computer. Even txt files
open slowly. I have the same files on another computer with no problem at
all.
