Memory performance counters missing

Hi out there

I have a weird problem on a single Windows 2000 SP4 std. Server - my memory
counters are missing - I cannot select the memory object in perfmon ? - I
have - as far as I can see - all other performance counters - more or less -
but memory - and also CPU counters are missing. I think that I have checked
every corner in the registry to see if there could be some entry which has
disabled these counters. The server was just restarted yesterday and I didn't
get any hints of the cause by inspecting the eventlogs - has some had
similary problems?

You can Add/Remove them by regedit, but it's much easier to use exctrlst.exe
(Extensible Counter Listing Tool) from the resource kit to enable/ disable
the counters.

Hi again
Well Dawe - this is just one of the symptoms - I cannot "add" them again -
also not by exctrlst.exe because - they are not "just" disabled but missing.
I have been digging a bit around on other similary servers (Dell PE 4600) and
compared the bios-versions etc (Bios version A02 & A09) - some of them have
similary problems - can other confirm this and if so - who they solved the
problem ? "Just" a bios-update ?

Are you saying the library DLLs are missing? If so try from the RUN box;

sfc /purgecache

sfc /scannow

Failing that these may help.

Hi John & Dave
Both solutions would work - but it was only necessary to rebuild the
performance-counters - it just looked so weird to me because the os counters
didn't show up at all and there wasn't any more or less usefull hints in the
eventlog like "cannot load performance counters from bla bla" as we used to
see - but anyway - my memorycounters are "back on track" again - so thanks
for the tips
