In my hard drive i have less and less memory each day and have gotten to the
point where i have zero memory left any solutions as to what is eating at my
memory? i delete programs and free up space but it disappears the next day or
within hours. if i cant find the probelm then i will have to reformat my
computer.

Are you losing memory or hard drive space? They are two different things.

Yeah and it just says "Scanning: Compress old files" and the status bar never
increases even after hours of letting it run

You need to do as GreenieL suggested plus run anti-virus and spyware scans
in Safe Mode. You can delete all but the most recent System Restore points
and reduce the amount of space allocated for Restore points. Take a look in
Task Manager for any unusual processes that are running at a high percent
rate. Post back and let us know.

NEVER download files from anywhere unless it is from the website of the
developer, manufacturer or some entity that you trust. They ALWAYS have the
most up to date files that haven't been tampered with by some third party
who is "hosting" (read Leeching) those files without permission.

Yeah im going to do all of that stuff and keep you posted tomorrow to see
what happens thanks for all your help so far

In my experience I have seen some badly written applications fill up the
disk with gigantic temp files

There are many hard drive size tree programs out there. These scan your disk
and calculate all the sizes of all the folders on your disk. Seeing this
might help you pinpoint where exactly your space is going.
You can search on google for these. The one I use is a shell extension that
works with a right click> properties on a hard disk.

Here is another http://foldersize.sourceforge.net/
