Hard Drives?

I've got two hard drives in my desktop. They both worked fine, until one
day, the slave just stopped working. My system manager is showing the two
hard drives I've got plugged in. I ended up reformatting my primary hard
drive to use the slave as back up memory.

It registers it in the system manager, but not in the "My Computer" section.
I've cracked the case, replugged everything back in again to test the
connections, but still nothing. Suggestions?

thx.

Okay, just uninstalled and reinstalled the hard drive using the "Add
Hardware" wizard as suggested in the help guide. It located and reinstalled
the hard drive, says that it should be working successfully, but still is not
being located in "My Computer" section....

Hmmm...

It had been before the wipe. It just died one day. Can I format a hard drive
without having access to it?

Saw this on the list out there, so figured I'd let you know I checked to see
if this would work.
"Did you partition the drive, then format the partition(s) with a filesystem
windows can use?
go the the control panel->administration tools (or similar) computer
management, disk management"
Sounds good, but no dice. It doesn't see the hard drive on this view.
Next?

don't follow you!!

what is "System Manager"?
you have to use correct terminology or you confuse the person helping
you!!!!!!
It registers it in the system manager, but not in the "My Computer" section.

it shows up in "DEVICE MANAGER"??
does it show up in computer BIOS when booting up?

It does NOT show up in "Disk Management"?
was this partition or HDD created using 3rd party partto/disk manger program?

My naive reaction is: do I really want to trust essential data to such a
hard drive when so much is available these days?

(my answer is: I'd ditch the hard drive or whatever program claimed to
have formatted/partitioned/or otherwise managed the disk)

It died about a month before I reformatted the Primary. The Primary was
getting buggy badly, so it had been a long time coming.

Figured that something in the system was blocking it, and that the hard
drive might still work. It would be one thing if the hard drive wasn't being
detected by anything, but for the System to be seeing it and telling me that
it's working properly in the troubleshooting section tells me that there's
more to it than the drive just burning out.

is it setup as master or slave?

primary or secondary?

probably get a new drive for $45!
if potentially bad why trust it to an OS or even data?

How did you originally partition and format drive?
