memory error... The memory could not be "read".

I'm using WinXP-pro and was exploring files and folders, When I simply
clicked on one folder, it gave below error and then PC flashed back to just
plain desktop again (that is, the file explorer screen vanished).

This issue seems to be quietly but quickly appearing in more and more posts,
but there's yet to be a definitive/official posting that it is caused by X,
and the solution is Y. "Reasons" range from bad ram, video card, spyware,
bad software, etc., etc., etc.

Just like everyone else has, this PC has the usual defensive lineup of
McAfee, AdAware, etc., do regular basic maintenance, don't click on every
attachment, etc.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
George

The particular folder was...
c:\Documents and Settings\George\My Docs\1999\AdobePhotoshop\foldernamehere\
and it had a few dozen files... png, pst, etc.

(last time I got this, it was different folder that happend to include some
png files too)
