Memory dumps: what am I supposed to do?

My latpop occasionally has memory dumps.
What am I supposed to do when this happens?
I normally have to wait for the machien to do the memory dump.
Will it do any harm if I forcefully turn off instead of waiting 10
hours (exageration) for the memory dump?

What am I supposed to do with the memory dump?
Where is it?
Should I delete is?
Normally it's a few hundred MB's.

Any help would be aprpeciated.

Thanks.

Hi

The memory dumps are saved to the windows\minidump folder. Email me a
couple of them - if 88Ks - and I'll have a look at them for you.

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.

Under the header "Write debugging information:" there is a dropdown
menu box with several choices. From your comments I suspect that
your machine has the "Complete memory dump" option selected. You can
change this to whichever of the other options you would prefer,
including (none). If you want to take advantage of Will Denny's offer
of assistance then you should choose the "Small memory dum (64KB)"
option.

Good luck

Hello Will,

I've got another problem where I hope to take advantage of your kind offer.

I'm constantly getting NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS errors resulting in a
nice blue screen when attempting to install MS Visual Studio 2005.
After reading several articles about this error I was trying to figure out
which device driver is actually responsible for this failure as I'm quite
certain not to blame Visual Studio for that. So, I was hoping to get a
memory dump to use with dumpchk or WinDbg. Unfortunately, nothing happens
when the blue screen occurs -no memory dump, only the STOP code is displayed.
I've already tried selecting different options under Control Panel - System
- Advanced - Settings (Startup and Recovery section) turning them off and on
again. Nothing works at all. I just can't force my system to create a
memory dump file.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much in advance!
