Memory driver

I have a dual boot 98SE and XP Pro system running on a
Gigabyte GA-7VA-C motherboard amd Athlon Xp Processor, 512
MB of RAM. NO problem until I put in an other 512 MB of
RAM. Since then I had problems in both OS's. I did'nt
know that 98SE cannot really handle more then 512MB. MY
TV tuner does not work anymore and more importantly I am
asked to provide A "PCI Memory driver" this happens in
both OS's. Took out the additional RAM but the problem
persist amd the system freezes from time to time. I looked
for the term "PCI Memory driver" but cannot find it
anywhere on the net, I assume it is needed for the "PCI
Memory Manager" which is listed in the Device Manager. Any
Ideas? I did a new setup of the motherboard no joy.

For the 98, edit its System.ini file, and under
[vcache]
add a line
MaxFileCache=500

which will handle *that* problem.

But it may be that the modules are just not well enough matched -
Windows is very fussy about that. Try each separately to ensure both
are sound

Although this myth is widely repeated, it is *not* true that
"98SE cannot really handle more then 512MB." All you need to do
is to limit the size of the vcache by adding the line

MaxFileCache=500

to the [vcache] section of System.ini.

Why you are having problems in Windows XP is less clear, but be
aware that Windows XP stresses the RAM more than 98 does. It's
possible that the added RAM is good enough to work with 98 but
not good enough for XP. Or it may not be matched to the original
RAM well enough.
