Memory 1 Gb

I've just tried to install windows 2000 after adding
another 512Mb of memory - now totalling 1Gb of memory -
and keep receiving the error message: access violation
error c0000005. I pulled out the memory to put the system
back down to 512Mb and it now works fine. Both memory
cards are of the same type. Is this new memory faulty or
do you need to do something within windows itself for
1Gb???? Any ideas? Many thanks.

Mark -

- make sure all internal cables are tight.
- make sure the new RAMcard is seen by BIOS.
- make sure the new RAMcard will boot as the only card.
- make sure each RAM card works OK alone, in each RAM slot.
- if the machine will boot OK with either RAMcard alone but not with
both, try moving the 2 cards around in different slot combinations.
- if no slot combination works, the 2 cards are probably different
enough in some characteristic (like timing latency) that W2k is deciding
one is defective. W2k is very demanding in that regard.
- it's also possible you have a bad RAM slot. (I'm assuming the
motherboard manual says the RAM you have is a valid amount for the
moboard and the slots.)

have a search for memtest86 and run that, identified a
faulty chip when I was having random failures using win2K
and 1 gb (2 by 512) memory - saveda fair bit if stress

You just do one thing that is Start computer with only
second 512 MB Ram so that you will be able to know that
problem is with memory or ram

other thing that MAke sure that both ram are of same
Frequency if not then it might be because of this
