Meeting Notices Forwarded as Text Attachment

Using Outlook 2003 on WinXP Pro SP2...

Does anyone know what setting would be causing this? When I forward a
meeting notice to an attendee not on our network, it arrives as a text
attachment and does not allow the attendee to accept or decline the notice.

I was previously able to do this both individually and as a Rule and the
meeting notice would arrive as expected with Accept / Decline / Tentative
buttons. However, an update to my system that involved removing /
reinstalling Office 2003 to address a compatibility issue with Excel 2003 and
Access 97. I'm sure that whatever change happened here is the culprit, I
just don't know what it is exactly.

Thanks in advance ...

If the recipient is not in the same domain, even if they use Exchange the
meeting request will not arrive as sent. You will also not be able to see
their free/busy information. There can be exceptions, such as when it comes
to master/resource domains and there are trusts involved, but from separate
domains/Exchange servers I don't believe you can send a meeting request and
have them accept it as if they're on the same server. They have to drag and
drop the meeting request into their calendar.

K -

I probably didn't do a good job of explaining my situation before "something
changed and wrecked my happy life". :) I was successfully forwarding meeting
notices from my office server to my personal email account at home (and to
other recipients as well). When I'd arrive home at night, I'd have whatever
meeting notices I'd received that day waiting in my personal email inbox.
I'd open the notice, it would look just like it did when I opened it at the
office and I could click Accept/Decline/Tentative as necessary. I could then
synch my personal calendar with my PDA calendar and achieve some semblance of
sanity in my life (non standard apps installed on company PCs is a no-no so I
can't install my synch software).

Suddenly after this removal / reinstall of Office 2003, these meeting
notices forward as a text attachment and I can no longer
Accept/Decline/Tentatively mark them. I have to retype them into my personal
calendar (which sort of is a PITA). I have not tried to drag the notice on
to my calendar because it truly appears to be just a text attachment. I will
try that tonight however.

One thing I can certainly attest to though is that in my personal folders at
home I absolutely have meeting notices that look like what you expect a
meetint notice to - complete with the acceptance buttons. However, they were
all from prior to the Office 2003 reinstall.

I've checked my settings and the only thing I see that might have some
impact is the Options --> Mail Format --> Internet Format --> Outlook Rich
Text Options. It is currently set to the default of "Convert to HTML format".

Any other ideas?

HTML shouldn't be an issue at all, and now that I reread your original post
it makes more sense as well. Sorry for the fumble on my part.
Unfortunately, I don't use Outlook 2003 all that often to be honest so one
of the MVP's will answer you or someone more familiar with that version of
Outlook. I'm really sorry I can't help!
