Mediaplayer Classic DVD: failed to query interfaces?

How does one get Mediaplayer Classic to play DVD's?
All I get is is this msg: "failed to query the needed interfaces for
DVD playback".

I have got the same problem and do not understand what the other girl
did to get rid of it. i bought a dvd-rom without software (should be
detected automatically (was detected, but only as cd-rom)). my
operating system is win 98 se.

Perhaps WMPC isn't finding your DVD-Rom?

Or maybe you are having a similar problem to what I had. I installed the
"Fraunhofer VOB-AC3 DVD Codec" and it fixed me right up. (Win98SE for me,
too)

'Course it could be something else, too.

Is it freeware? Download link?
Is there an alternative?

Dang! if I can't find the web site again. Don't you just hate that? I finally found it...

It is the first link on this page (links may wrap to next line):
http://www.winnfreenet.com/nuke/html/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=MostPopular

Or direct download link:
http://www.winnfreenet.com/nuke/html/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=7

I also tried the Vob Filters, so they might have helped, too.
http://www.digital-digest.net/downloads/files/encode/VOB_Filters_104.zip

If you still need more help, the search terms for google that helped me were:
Free DVD Filter
and
free software dvd player / decoder

Here is another link that helped me out (WARNING! Link contains NON-freeware also):
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showcategory.php?cid=13&scid=10&detail=high

VideoLan on the above page is OPENSOURCE and seemed to be the most promising, but I couldn't get it to work properly on my system.

Hope that helps.
