MediaMonkey newbie - display inconsistency?

I've just started using my registered copy of MediaMonkey 2.1 (Build:
1.59) and find it a bit daunting at first. One immediate puzzle is why
two identical sets of files in two separate Windows folders, one set
MP3 the other WMA, are displayed very differently in MM. Apart from
some basic differences in field content for artist, title, etc, one of
the folders has weird 'box' symbols in some places. I've illustrated

That could be related to Charset encoding.
