Sound question using media player

When I watch a video online using any of my other player programs the sound
can be turned up very loud. When a download automatically uses the media
player it is just barely audible with all sliders turned up. That is the
ones in media player, speaker slider on toolbar "lower right bar", and all
sliders in control panel-sounds-audio.

Am I missing another way to turn it up for media player?

This is on a Dell XP system using soundmax digital audio.

Received no answers but now OK. Perhaps I just got into a group of bad news
video's.
