Media Player settings

Can anyone tell me how to change my default media player setting?
I would prefer to use WMP for some things and not others but after i
installed Nero for the DVD-Rom it is my default Media player im am not
familiar with it so that make me not to tend to use it and i hate how all my
Video/audio files have the Nero Icon Instead of the Windows media Icon!!
