Media player restarts computer

Every time I open a file that uses media player the computer shuts down and
restarts. I can open media player itself and it opens fine until I try to
play something then it shuts off. I just installed service pack 3 although I
don't know if this is related. I have tried uninstalling MP11 and
reinstalling didn't help. Any ideas?
