I have recently bought a new Acer Aspire laptop with XP home preinstalled,
(so I have only restore disks not a full XP disk), having changed from a
desktop running 98SE.
I partitioned the 80GB hard disk and put my all my programs including the
Windows OS on one drive whilst documents, videos etc are stored on the on the
other drive. However when I came to play mpegs or avi's in Media Player 9 or
10 I got an error message:
"Visual C++ Runtime library
Runtime error Program C:\windows\explorer.exe
R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library
incorrectly...(etc)"
If I click the "OK" button the message appears between 2 and 6 times before
finally playing the mpeg/avi.
I get a similar message if I use WinAmp.
The message appears irrespective of whether the mpeg has transferred from my
old computer, or is a new download.
In an attempt to sort the problem all other media players such as WinAmp
were removed leaving only Media Player and I reverted to the earliest version
on my computer, but the problem remains! - I can't find a way of getting rid
of Media Player completely and doing a brand new install.
When I looked up the error on the MS site, some references were made to
Visual Basic which I had installed as one of the programs in addition to
Windows, but none of the apps I have developed in VB had been installed. I
have removed the VB program from the system but the problem remains.
This is doing my head in. Has anyone any suggestions?
