Media Player problem?

Howdy all, I'm having problem copying files from a playlist to a blank CD-R
(as a Data CD). When I click on the copy button WMP opens the MP3s,
"converts" the files, then it'd report the files as being "ready to copy"...
but nothing happens. I try clicking on the copying button again - and the
same thing happens.

I've copied files to a CD-R using media player before, and I use it to copy
files to my MP3 player all the time, so I know it can be done... So what am
I doing wrong?

Advice?

If it's your intent to simply copy the MP3 files as *data*, just drag them
to the CD drive letter (or right-click|COPY HERE). No conversion
necessary. They will remain MP3s on the new CD/R.

No I don't want them converted at all - but I use WMP for its autolist
feature, which allows me to copy a random selection of songs onto my CDs.
If I set WMP's preferences to automatically select the quality of the files,
then it'd copy the files across as it as... works fine with my
ultra-portable MP3 player, but I'm having problem copying to CD-Rs. Like I
said all it does, according to the status column, is to open the files,
converts them, and then nothing.
