Hi Linda,
On the Media Player while it is open click on the Toolbar and click on ToolsOn the Options Window click on Player Tab:
Under Automatic For updates
( ) once a day ( ) once a week (*) once a month check this
Radio Button

Under Player Settings:
scr5oll down until this check box:
[ ] Connect to the inernet (overrides other commands uncheck this

Look around while there you will see much more configurations and you can
configure it if you will use the media player to protect you and work for
your computing needs.
Being a Laptop 4 weeks old, crashes and slow that not good sign to start a
healthy computing.
Scan for malwares and always after 4 hours of computing give a least 15
minutes of rest for both you and the computer.

HTH.
Please let us know if was of ahelp to you.

Hi nass,
Thanks you for your reply. I have checked the settings and they were
already set that way. Nortons cannot find any malware/virus.
I never started the program, it just starts itself??
Any other ideas, before I reinstall the whole set up?
Thanks again
Linda

Hi Linda,
Norton will not catch all the Malwares, try to scan with spybot S&D for
malwares from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ for Lavasoft SE for personal use

- If still no joy do the following:
A= Open Run command and type:
msconfig click [OK]
on the System configuration window click on Startup Tab and see if the
Windows media is check for start up, if been checked uncheck it and close the
Configuration window then Reboot.

B= Disable it from start up programs, on how to do that open a Run command
and type:
regedit.exe or regedit32.exe click [OK]
(please back up your registry first and then do your changes)

<Quate from MS article>
If you want to modify only the list of legacy programs that run at Startup,
use Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Start Registry
Editor, and then go to one of the following registry keys:
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

2. If you do not want a program to run at Startup, find that particular
program and delete its entry from one of these registry keys.

You can add entries here as well, but it is recommended that you use the
Windows Run at Startup policy to add programs that you want to run at
Startup.
</Quate>

If still then try to unistall it and then reinstall it agin.

HTH.
Please let us know.

nass
