Media player not playing AVI files

D

Daj

HI
I have some avi files that ran in media player and real player with no problems. I have updated to SP2
and now they play sporaticly. The picture comes on with the sound then quits then it starts up again
for a few seconds and repeats the same sequence all over a 9 min clip never really finishes. Where it
shows on the screen that the player is playing it displays "Playing - Clip capture My Movie - playlist
playlst10" in that order and then repeats all over again the same sequence. Any idea what could be
wrong? I sure would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks, Daj

Download the WM 9 Series encoder from windows media site, then open encoder,
select, convert, convert or run the file thru encoder.

any ideas on how to get Media player to show the video part of an AVI file?
I've get the sound, but instead of any video I get some stupid swirling
pattern. I down loaded some AVI's of the net, great no problem. I got a
message saying I need to up-date to Media player 11, which I did, but got
sound and a swirling pattern, rolled back to Media Player 9, and same thing.
I've tried running WM 9 and I get told the codec's aren't there.

Hi Andrew
I tried your solution and found exactly no change in my system.
Specific: For files of type AVI, MPG, MOV ... and others, the video display
is a graphical representation of the audio. The fluctuation in the waveform
of the audio is synchronized with the audio which comes across (via
headphones or speaker) loud and clear. Except for the graph, which uses the
full horizontal dimension of the screen, there is NO VIDEO.
Prior to downloading "the latest version of Windows Media" (Media 11) all
video and audio worked fine in my system.
I do hope you - or anyone - can tell me how to fix this problem.
The computer: HP ze5300 laptop - Windows XP - SP2 upgrade done long time ago.
