Media player does not work

My windows media player 9 stopped working after installation of XP service
pack2. The icon is available but if you run the program nothing happens. I
treid installing media player 10 with the same result. Can this be caused by
a firewall setting?

I've had that happen twice where the player would not open. Must be a fault
in the player , reinstalling fixed the problem with no loss of files. JJ
