Media Center Widescreen Window Aspect

Hello Everyone,

I am having some issues with the aspect ratio media center uses in windowed
mode. Previously, I can remember media center opening up in a widescreen
window, but after some time it no longer seems to do this, and I am not sure
what I have done to cause it.

I have a multimonitor setup, and thought that changing of primary monitors
and resolutions etc may have caused media center to stop displaying its
content in a 16:9 window.

My current primary monitor is a 19" tft (1280x1024), and the secondary is a
20" tft (1600x1050). I have run the "Setup Display" wizard with both the 19"
and 20" display as the primary monitor but a 16:9 window layout will not be
produced.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Regards
Jay

Right click on the playback window and you will be given the option to cycle
through different aspect ratios. (Sorry I don't remember the exact name of the
option right now.)

The Zoom option doesn't change the aspect ratio of the window, just crops
off/stretches various parts of the picture. I'm having the same problem,
Media Center loads in 4:3 when it used to load in 16:9 widescreen.
Full-screen mode is displaying correctly (1440x900) but window mode does not.
I have yet to find a solution.

Media Center opens in window mode for me in 16:9. There is an option in Media
Center setup to designate your screen aspect ratio. I also have a widescreen
monitor (1680 x1050), and have no problem in widescreen window mode.

Hello Everyone,

I have made some changes now, I now have 2 widescreen displays, one at
1680x1050 and one at 1902x1200, with the first one being the primary display.

I have gone through the setup as pointed out by cal bear, Settings > General
Windows Media Center Setup > Configure your TV or Monitor and it is as
before setup to a widescreen mode.

MCE still opens up in a 4:3 window, and does not resize to a 16:9 aspect
when widescreen source is present.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I might have a poke around the
registry keys for MCE to see if there is anything there which may help. Again
if anyone has any ideas which keys i should start to look at please advise.

Thanks all!

Jay,

I managed to fix my 4:3 window issue. In the start menu, right click on
Media Center and select properties. Shortcut tab, in Target, add
"/widescreen" to what is already there i.e. "%SystemRoot%\ehome\ehshell.exe
/widescreen". Reopen Media Center and it should load in 16:9.

Hey Everyone,

I have been using the /widescreen switch for a bit now. It only seems to
switch to widescreen once in a while, even though i am using the same
shortcut. Has anyone else experienced this?

Jay
