"Stopped working" is not even close to enough information. Crystal ball
anyone?

uninstalled the patch microsoft provided and media center worked fine --
don't install the kb947172 patch don't allow it to be installed.

It installed fine on my system with no ill effects. Watching hdtv and
recording from both the PC and Xbox 360 work fine.

Cameron,

It may not be enough information but that's all the error message I get says
"Windows Media Center has Stopped Working" with a button to click that says
close program. Strangely enough my Windows Mobile Device Center stopped
working at the same time. It won't even open. If you or anyone has any idea
what to do to fix it I would love to hear it. I'll be happy to provide logs
from event viewer. Here are some of the entries for Media center:

Event Info: ERROR: SqmApiWrapper.TimerRecord failed; Win32 GetLastError

Event Info: Error: Failed to reprocess guide!

I can't find any errors related to WMDC though.

Cameron, That's the provided error message from Microsoft; if they provide
generic error messages then I can't do anything but report it. What I did to
fix my problem is uninstall the patch and now I continue to receive the
notice of "new installs are ready - the same one that I refuse to install the
lame patch.
