Unable to update Vista without wipeing out Media Center

Can anyone help me? I have not been able to update my Vista. Each time I
allow an update to install on my system, my Media Center Edition 2005 won't
work anymore. I get various error messages such as I no longer have a TV
tuner, etc. Is there anything I can do to stop Vista updates from screwing
around with my Media Center? I have a Sony Vaio. VGC-RC110G. Vista Home
Premium . If there were a way to block anything from writing to Media
Center, THAT would solve this whole problem. The last time I let an update
install, I had to do a system recovery to get the Media Center to function.
Any help would be appreciated

Is not Media Center Edition 2005 something that runs on XP? If this is the
case that MC 2005 belongs to XP. well, of course is liable to stop working
when you apply updates to the Vista O/S when those updates may replace a
component that's common to other Vista solutions running on the computer and
those components maybe common to Media Center Edition 2005.

Doesn't Vista HP come with its own Media Center?

When I go to properties of Media Center 2005, on the compatability page,
everything is "grayed out". It doesn't give me the ability to tell it to run
as XP operating system. That was the first thing I tried to do when this
started happenning. This is a royal pain. Either I have an updated computer
or I have TV capabilities. Some choice!

Which was not going to correct your problem anyway with Windows Update
patching the O/S knocking it out. I can use the MC that came with Vista that
allows me to watch TV. You said you had Vista Home Premium and it has its
own MC I thought.
