Mechwarrior 3 exits on campaign

I have been unable to resolve my Rage PRO TURBO with Windows XP and the
latest ATI drivers from exiting MW3 during the "videos" playback at the
beginning of the very first campaign mission.

I see a static covered monitor like it would be in a mech with the news
playing, then that cuts to, the mech pilot saying something like I said
get me operational, I will worry about the others later. Then I'm back
to the desktop.

The opening video of the CD does not play either, it stops after a
couple of seconds and the main menu appears.

Currently running DX9.0b, on a twin pentium 733 acorp board. 384 megs
of RAM.

I have tried windows 98 compatibility mode, no difference. Tried 256
colors, no difference, tried 640x480, no difference.

I can play instant action just fine, it runs great is fun in it's own
right, but would like to play some real missions now.

This one sounds like a dirty/scratched CD?

Maybe some trouble with that dual cpu config? I played MechW3 just fine last
year on moblity radeon 9000 with cat.3.2 drivers. No problems.
May be a faulty cd as mentioned, try making an iso of cd, and try out your
luck.

The CD was factory new. Completely clean. I suspect I have an issue with
the RAGE PRO TURBO ATI card. Watching ebay for a steal on a Radeon.
