I just upgraded the motherboard and CPU in my eMachines
desktop. The WindowsME "Restore Disk" won't even load ME
onto the hard drive. How do I upgrade to XP if the
original ME isn't on the drive?

Thanks,

I would expect the upgrade to request that you insert the
ME CD when it reaches the point that it wants to verify
that you own ME.

Correct, you will be prompted for retail media of a qualifying product (98,
ME, 2k, etc)

You will need to purchase the full version of XP, as the original eMachines
restore media cannot be used as a qualifier and the restore media will not
restore to the new mother board.
A mother board change with OEM factory installed versions of Windows are not
supported.
If you have a Windows 9X/Me disk that is not in use, you can use this as a
qualifier and use the XP upgrade instead of the full version.
