MCI Commnand Handler not responding???

L

Larc

Since installing SP2, I've had several incidents of my computer failing to shut
down because something called the MCI Command Handler (which is evidently a
legitimate function) won't close. I can overcome this easily when I'm sitting
at the computer, but auto shutdowns can be a real problem. I sometimes set my
system to shut down automatically after it completes a procedure. It's very
irritating to get up the next morning and find it still running because
something won't respond.

Any ideas how to keep the MCI Command Handler from having this problem?

TIA!

Larc

Hello Larc,

The best, cheapest and quickest way to fix this problem
and get done within 1 1/2 hrs:

Un-Install SP2:
- Go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and
select SP2
- Next boot to the WinXP CD
- Select Repair and follow other screen instructions.
- After it Reboots go to the Desktop.
- Run a 3rd Party Windows Registry cleaner program.
- Defrag the Windows Registry file.
- Then reboot.
- After it Reboots go to the Desktop.
- Check your problem, as it should be ok now.
- Then go to the Windows Update Site and download and
install them again without SP2.
- Wait for a while until Microsoft gets SP2 fixed.

If you would like to correspond further, I have created a
temporary email address you can contact me at and I have
images that would show more details about how to do these
tasks:
