McAfee v7 Anti-Virus won't update

Hello all;

About 2 months ago, I installed McAfee v7 (retail purchase). Well, last
night I tried to do an update and it told me my free update period was
expired. Contacted McAfee support via their "chat" service and discovered
that the softwre thinks it was installed on Dec 31, 1995!!!!!

Gee, no wonder It's expired -- however, the McAfee tech told me I had to
un-install and re-install (actually emailed me specific directions on what
registry keys to delete and the like).

I had to do this once before (when their firewall crapped out) and it took
several hours, on a high speed DSL connection, to download all the
updates -- it even crashed my machine twice during the process. What a
pain!!

I don't want to go through this again. Is there anyway to reset the
expiration date without re-installing the software??

Thanks in advance.

Another option would be to use a better product,

Here's a nifty little app for grepping the registry:

Thanks. I used "regedit" and found the key "LastDatsExpReminderTime" under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
McAfee
McAfee Shared Components
Updater
Settings
Monitor

and under...

HKEY_USERS
.DEFAULT
Software
McAfee
McAfee Shared Components
Updater
Settings
Monitor

It's a binary value and looks like:

0000 00 DB 20 F0 93 33 C3 01 several goofy chars
0008

Anyone have any idea whether this key is what I'm looking for and how to
decipher it?

TIA.
