Hi,

I use windows vista home premium, windows mail, mcafee (anti virus),
and Yahoopops (connects smtp to yahoo mail).

When I try to send messages via windows mail, Mcafee thinks there is a
problem and stops me sending my messages.

Can anyone tell me how to stop mcafee blocking messages that I send

Thanks

If you use Google Groups and search for "McAfee" in the Microsoft public
Vista newsgroups, you'll find a huge number of posts regarding problems
with this software.

Rather than messing about with McAfee's poorly written and bloated
program, you'd be better off uninstalling it. Use a better antivirus
instead such as NOD32, Kaspersky, or even Avast if you want a free one.

download either avast or avg.
go to mcafee web site and download their uninstaller.
uninstall mcafee.
install either avast or avg.
you may have to remove and recreate you email accounts because of the mess mcafee makes of them.

Easy. Uninstall anything McAfee. And, do not replace it with anything from
Symantec.

Try Avast free from http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

You may also want to install Spyware Blaster (also free) to help protect you
while on the internet.

Thanks for the responses.

I realise that there are many problems, but I have a pc with a
subscription and I would rather like to use the prog I've paid for.

Is there a simple way to get McAfee to ignore completely outgoing
mail.

I thought that I had disabled the option, but it still wont send
messages via windows mail, and it gives messages about being unable to
send mail.

Any quick fixes appreciated.

I know the best fix is deletion, but I have paid for the prog as part
of the package.

Thanks

When Dell puts McAfee antivirus on a new computer, do they pay McAfee or
does McAfee pay Dell so as to get users accustomed to their software? If
McAfee pays Dell, you have effectively been paid to get McAfee's software.
You are not obligated to use it or keep it.

When I got a Dell computer recently I asked Dell whether I could get it with
no antivirus program since I wanted to install NOD32, which Dell does not
offer. I was told that although you can specify for a Dell computer not to
come with "craplets" (see http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/ptech-20070412.html),
you can't get it without one of the antivirus programs Dell offers. Dell
advised that McAfee was the easiest to uninstall, so I ordered with McAfee
and promptly uninstalled it.

You made a bad investment. It's time to acknowledge that
and cut your losses.

This is but one example of how poorly written the McAfee program is.

Uninstall McAfee. Install a free antivirus.
Each day you leave McAfee on your machine it does further
damage to your mail database. You're playing with fire.

Since reading this post, I visited Dell, Gateway and HP sites. All purchases
contained "tie-in" sales of either Norton or McAfee for 15 or 18 month deal.
In an on-line chat with a Gateway Sales person, I was informed that I
couldn't buy a Gateway computer without. My response was that I would look
elsewhere. Last month I bought an HP at the local Sam's Club. During setup,
I uninstalled the McAfee program and installed AVG Anti-virus. I have been
protected since 2004 with this program and don't intend to change.
