on-demand scanner has encountered problems and needs to close. Sorry for the
inconveinence.

Event viewer reads.
Faulting application vsmain.exe. version 7.2.6000.0. Faulting module
mcscan 32,dll. version 4.1.6.0 Fault address 0x00029f77.

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

microsoft.public.security.virus

Your answer is *VERY* simple.
Your McAfee AV ENGINE is way out-of-date !

You seem to be using retail McAfee VirusScan v7.x and thats old alreay. They are now up to
v9.x. Albeit, the v7.x is probably better in some ways to v8.x and v9.x.

There are three parts to the McAfee VirusScan software...

Kernel -- The version of the application, yours is retail McAfee VirusScan v7.x
ENGINE - applies the algorithms to search for viruse based upon signatures
DAT - the virus signature files which are the fingerprints of viruses (malware)

Your ENGINE is v4160 which is way out of date. You need to be using ENGINE v4400 !
http://www.networkassociates.com/us/downloads/updates/engine.asp

The best way to resolve this is to download and execute the McAfee SuperDAT which contains
the latest DAT and ENGINE files.

ftp://ftp.nai.com/licensed/antivirus/datfiles/4.x/sdat4566.exe

If that does NOT work then the SuperDAT no longer recognizes the older product anymore and
will have to be manually installed.
Please report back as to the success or failure of running the McAfee SuperDAT.
