McAfee fails Symantic test?

Sorry, my earlier (partial) post did not have the complete story...
I ran the Symantec Security Scan, with my McAfee antivirus running, and they
"failed" my system for "No known virus protection software found."
Is this a marketing ploy? Just Symantec vs McAfee?
Frankly, I believe in McAfee over this test, since I do not know what
exactly was tested.
Could the test be bogus, or have I bought snake oil?

this is test file, which should be detected when you
download and save it. Some viruses can deactivate any
anti-virus program. but I think the test you took was an ad
ploy to sell you
Norton.

I can beat that...
I took the test (some time ago) whilst running Symantec Norton AV 2002 and
it told me I had inadequate protection which I could improve by
installing...
you guessed it!

Well, I'm sure Symantec would applaud your wise choice, whether you chose
AVG OR ZoneAlarm!
