i want to accurately extract only streaming links from webpages and no
other links (so that they can be pasted into a video / radio player i'm
trying to develop-one step at a time)

You could try a few of different things. In Firefox you can always view
the page source, and copy/paste the address of the stream to make a new
bookmark.

Additionally, if you look at "Page Info" (which I think is under the
View menu) the box that pops up has a Media tab that displays the
addresses of all of the embedded media on the page.

Lastly, you could install adBlock. You can them list all of the
bloackable elements on the page, including the embedded media. Click on
it to throw the address down to the bottom input box for editing.
Simply select and copy it out of there and close the adBlock window
instead of blocking the stream. I've used this technique several times
to actually download a video stream from a site onto my hard drive. I
just copy the link and paste it into my download manager.

You might be able to use the Video Downloade plugin to achieve the same
type of results.
