Using freeware to download a short video

Anonymous

I need help to download a video. I have tried to download and save or
save as... the file using IE, Firefox, and Windows Media Player but
nothing will save it to my HD. It comes from the website as a stream
and plays only in my Windows Media Player even though I have tried (and
failed) to play it in VLC and Media Player Classic.

Here is the link:

Is there any freeware that can be used to download this file to my hard
drive?

Thanks for your help!

I trief it myself, however if you play it in windows media player it says
"optimized streaming" this probably is causing asf recorder to not work.

if no one has any other idea you can use camstudio to re-capture the area of
the
screen while it is playing into a new video file.

see here: http://www.camstudio.org/

John Jay Smith explained on 5/3/2006 :

Thanks for the tip. I tried ASFRecorder but it did not work for me. It
downloads asf streams, and I'm trying to download a wmv file. I thank
you for the suggestion and I'm going to keep this program on my drive in
case I need it in the future.

It may be simply that Microsoft DRM is preventing you from downloading
it. If that's the case, you're going to have a very difficult time
accomplishing what you want. I've noticed that the new Shockwave style
movies are impossible to download as well.

On the other hand, I just Googled and found this one:

http://sdp.ppona.com/

I haven't used it though. It may be that the stream you're trying to
download is actually an .mma with a .wmv extension.

If this is not the case, then this one:

http://en.hoonnet.com/english1/recorder_intro.html

might do what you want. I haven't installed or used it though, so it's
at your own risk.

This site:

might provide you with some help.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc (who uses sock puppets)
for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware,
demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited
software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

.. I've noticed that the new Shockwave style

Now THIS I figured out a way around <G>
I have Opera set to download media files when it plays them (tho it only
does some) and I found the .flv files in the cache directory and after
copying them to another directory - and finding an flv-player (here in
the NG, natch) ... (next I need to convert them so I can send them to
friends).
Sometimes, however, they are sneaky and are cached as .tmp files, and
then you just need to recognize them (size usually does it as they tend
to be > 500K), and then rename them when you copy them (including
changing the extension to .flv)
Doesn't always work, but I created a shortcut to my Opera cache
directory so I can sneak a peek any time some content catches my
interest and see if it's in there (view arranged by date-modified) and
I've snagged loads of interesting icons, vids, scripts, swfs, etc
