Maxtor Warrenty and Ext USB One Touch drive

Hello, I am so fed up with Maxtor. I have had a Maxtor One Touch USB
Ext HD for a year now by mistake someone turned off my maxtor drive
ever since then it has been annoying, annoying to the fact that every
3-4 seconds a pop up window pops up saying "unsafe removal of device"
and the drive goes constantly online then offline over and over. There
is data on the drive and I have work I need to get done that is on this
drive but I can't do nothing when the pop up pops up constantly and the
drive goes offline then online you can't read or write anything to it.
I gave maxtor a call since I was over my warrenty at the time by a
month they did nothing, this problem I have is annoying me very much
and I have tried everything to fix it, from moving it to a different
USB port to reinstalling to you name it. I am so frusterated they told
me it was something with the drive but since I was over a month
warrenty I'm suppose to have this drive I cannot use, Please help me.
The least maxtor can do is replace but I suppose they want the money
and who cares about anything else !

PS. I have a screen shot of the error if anyone cares to see.

Since the drive is no longer in warranty, remove the drive from the
enclosure and connect it directly to an IDE connector in a desktop PC.

Does Maxtor have a Windows-based diagnostic that you can try on the
drive? If not, Seagate has one from Ontrack that you can run while
online.

If you paid for the HD with a credit card, it's possible that you still
have another year's worth of warranty with the card company. This
applies to American Express and gold and platinum Visa and Mastercard
cards. Otherwise you may still have warranty left if you complained
about problems during the warranty period and they were never resolved,
and maybe Maxtor will do something if you mention that. Otherwise file
a billing error complaint with your card company in writing and mail it
to the special address for such complaints (any else may not guarantee
your legal rights). Some companies, like Amex and Citibank, are really
good at handling complaints, but BankOne (FirstUSA) is not and has even
outright lied to me (they once rejected a complaint for a hotel while
Citibank Visa cancelled a charge for the same hotel).

I have an IOmega USB hard drive that acts funny, probably because of
IOmega's driver software, but the IDE hard drive inside works
perfectly, even when I took it out and tested it directly with its
manufacturer's diagnostic.
