Maxtor Shared Storage Drive print capabilities

Was wondering if anyone owns either the 200GB or 300GB versions of the
Maxtor shared storage drive. I know you can attach a printer to one of the
USB ports, but can this thing act as a print server for, say a wireless
network, when the main PC is shutdown? Maxtor doesn't give much detail in
its online brochure as to this.

In other words, when the shared storage drive (with a printer connected to
its USB port) is attached to your wireless router and you want to print
something from one of the other wireless computers in your WLAN, will it
show this attached printer and allow you to print to that printer? Thanks
for any advice.

If it works for a wired network, there is no reason it
wouldn't similarly work for wireless, assuming your router
or access point remains up, on.

What are you declaring to be the "main" about some system?

Does this system actually do anything relating to the
storage or printing? If not, it has no relevance. More
detail might be needed.

I don't have one but would expect the issue to be whether it
actually supports that printer as a print server.

That the other computers are wireless, is irrelevant so long
as you have the access point or wifi router working. That
essentially makes them in every way just the same as wired
systems for the purposes of resource access.

I didn't mean to confuse the issue with the reference to wireless. I just
wanted to know if on a network with one of these things, if you tried to
print to a printer connected

LAN PC--router--ntwk att storage(NAS)--printer

would the NAS unit act as a print server. Maybe someone that has one of
these pieces of gear could answer. Intuitively I would think that yes it
would but wanted to hear it from a user of one of the Maxtors. I have a
wireless LAN setup where there is one central hardwired PC (connected to the
wireless router) that has 2 printers connected to it. You can print from one
of the other 2 wireless PCs as long as this PC is on. I wanted to know
definitively if the NAS unit would act the same as this PC and allow
printing to happen. That way I could have one printer hooked to the NAS all
of the time and not worry if that PC was on or off. This would be assuming
that the NAS is on 24/7, which would make sense.

There is a doc here. See "Using USB Printers with your drive".
