Maximise window

When I open window, it wouldn't go to the maximise, have
to click on maximise button or use mouse to drag it open.
Any idea what's going on? If I'm not wrong, there should
be a setting which I could change. Have done it before,
but forgotten the steps to do it. I'm using xp

A window in XP should open the same way you left it. As
a test make a window such as the internet explorer
browser window to a certain size, close it, then open it
again... it should go to the same size and location on
the screen. This should also be the case with minimising
and maximising.

1. Open the window in questions and maximize it.
2. After maximizing immediately close that same window.
3. Open the window and it should open to the same size.

That works but after you stretch the window to full size you have to click
File and then Close to save the window size. Hitting the red X to close the
window will not save the new stretched window size, unless of course it was
already full size.
