matching photos to music

how do I match the photos to end at the end of each song?

Photo Story 3 transitions between music cuts when the time for
the photo expires.

You can always adjust the duration of a photo to get the timing
the way you want it.

I don't really understand your answer.

I assumed that you were using some program to create a slide
show combining pictures and music. Since you didn't mention
what program you were using, I suggested Photo Story 3.

Photo Story 3 is one such program, available free from Microsoft,
that makes such synchronization pretty easy, since the transition
of the last photo shown during a song can be matched to the end
of the song.

Photo Story 3 will slave the sound transition to the photo
transition (not the other way around), so if you want the sound
to transition at a particular point, you have to adjust the
duration of "showing" of (at least) the final photo of the
song to get the sound transition to occur at the end of the
song.

You will typically want to adjust the durations from the
front of the show toward the end of the show, so that
earlier timings are not changed.

Do you have to transition each individual picture to fit the song. Some
songs don't have many pictures for that individual song, while others have
too many and the song ends before my pictures are all shown. Yes, I am using
Photo Story 3. Also, what can the total length of the slide show be? I know
you can only use 300 photos, but with music attached, hoe long can it run?

The limit seems to be related more to total Photo Story file size rather
than to any particular number of photos or songs. Someone here will
know what the actual file size limit is.

I generally "default" most photo "times", and only touch up a few
to get a reasonable fit.

If you really want to "match" the transitions to the music, then you
will probably want to set each photo time and transition time, starting
from the front. This way, it's even possible to match the beat!

Photo Story isn't very convenient with regard to how it handles the
default times. It would be handy if there were a setting to "inherit"
the previous slide's time, but there isn't, so there is a fair amount
of "clicking" involved. ;-)

I've never had any problem with <200 photos and about 20-30 minutes
total music duration, but, depending on the resolution of the photos
(which you can scale down to suit your purposes) the number of photos
may vary.

If you want a longer/bigger show, it's a good idea to split it up
into safe-sized chunks and use video burning software to combine
them on a DVD.
