Master Volume

I've recently wiped my hard drive and now my master volume is not controlling
all volumes. When I mute the master volume cd's can still be heard playing
clearly at the same level and computer sounds still take place. My Wav volume
seems to be controlling all volumes. I want to give the control back to my
master volume but I haven't been able too. I've taken steps through the
troubleshooting process but they were not helpful. If there are any answers
to these questions please help. I would appreciate it greatly.

Try R.clicking my computer,properties,hardware,device mgr,expand the tree
under sounds,R.click on the sound device,select,uninstall,then close out shut
down computer.If you have a pci sound card,move the card to a diffrent slot,
then start up computer,xp will reinstall auto.
