Master Slide confusion!

Hi there, I'm working with multiple slide masters and I find it so confusing
when I go into normal view and try to apply a new master to selcted
slides...when I'm in Master Slide view, the slides are numbered down the left
hand side 1,2,3 etc and they have an icon of a pin/tack next to them, in the
task pane to the right when you hover the mouse over it the number that show
up is different....and when I go into normal view - I don't know which out of
all the masters, is the one I want to apply - as they are all very similar

I don't understand the whole concept of master and title slide - I figured I
just wanted Masters, so am not using Titles - is this why the numbering is
different?

Have I made any sense??

TIA!

Lets try to lift some of the confusion:
If you have different masters they are all numbered sequentially.
If the master has a slide master it will be attached to it, you can see this
because there is a line connecting both. The slide master can only be
applied to the "title slide design" and not to other slide designs.

If there is a pin next to your master that means that you want to keep that
master even when there are no slides using it in the presentation. If you
remove the pin PPT can remove the master when no slides make use of it.

In the slide design taskpane, all the masters will appear but no slide
masters. To make it more easy to apply the masters to the correct slides i
would advise to give the masters a name, you can do that by clicking on the
'name master button' in the master toolbar. If you give the master a
distinctive name you will see that name appear when you hover over the
master thumbnail in the taskpane. And PPT will show you to which slides the
master has been applied if any.
Does that help?
