Master Boot Record

describes the problem I had on my xp laptop.
I was able to restore the system, but the roxio goback 3 screen still
remains/displays just before the windows screen on bootup (even tho software
is not installed).
Is there a way to modify/reformat the Master Boot Record to eliminate
this roxio goback 3 screen, keeping just the Windows screen without having
to reinstall/restore the entire system?
Btw, I have no floppy drive, so I am unable to use any boot floppy disk.

You don't need a boot disk - just your OS install disk will do...

Boot to the CD, press a key to enter setup, enter the recovery console, type
/fixmbr...

More info can be found on that here:

Err... Make the FIXMBR without the slash. For some reason I was thinking
something else and then, just a second ago, I realized what I'd typed... So,
I figured I'd come back and fix that.

Does not fix the goback 3 screen problem.
Looks like a fdisk mbr and reinstall of windows appears to be the only
solution.

You CAN try - before you do the re-install - the bootcfg /rebuild and/or
fixboot. So, before going on with that, I'd go ahead and wipe the MBR and
then see if (with luck) you can rebuild it. Better than repairing it all.
