Marking text for indexing

I have a photo directory that I am creating. It includes both pictures and
text boxes (mutiple per page). When I try to select the text that I want to
reference in the index (ALT+SHIFT+X) nothing appears. I can move to the end
of my document, type text on the page, and it will mark for indexing just
fine. Is there no way to mark text inside text boxes or do I have to do
something with the text box formatting first?

Text boxes are in the drawing layer of the document and are invisible to
the text layer of the document where your INDEX field is located, so you
cannot mark index entries inside of text boxes. But you can convert
each text box into a frame (right-click on an edge of the text box,
left-click on Format Text Box | Text Box tab | Convert to frame), and
then the contents of the frames will be visible to the text layer.

Alternatively, you can create an XE field manually outside the text box; if
you create it in the paragraph to which the text box is anchored, then it
will return the correct page number.
