Mapping Network Drive - Doesn't work after iTunes update

I

icepick314

After updating iTunes to latest version 7.4.2, I can't access my
network drive to my file server with my music. I tried everything
from renewing ip to resharing drives but I can't seem to get my laptop
to see the mapped drive.

I get an error saying "The mapped network drive could not be created
because the following error has occurred: The network location cannot
be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows
Help.

But I can ping the file server with no errors and I can also VNC to it
and control remotely.

Anyone have any idea on how to get mapped drive to work again?

Thanks.

I have no idea how the two things could be related... But I would likely
first uninstall iTumnes completely to see if that remedies anything.

Windows XP what? Home, Pro, etc...?

If you reboot your laptop, open a command prompt and type in:
net use
Are there any network drives/shares listed? If so - deleted them.
Then type in:
net use x: \\ip.add.res.s\sharename\ /user:server_name\username_w_rights
(The point is to try and map the server by IP address and not server name.)

both the server and laptop is Windows XP....

and i've been mapping using ip address because my home router isn't
advanced enough to recognize by server name...

and what do i put in the second half.... /user:server_name
\username_w_rights

also it's home network so i just typed "net use x: \\ipaddress\" and i
get "System error 1231 has occurred. The network location cannot be
reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows
Help."
