mapping drive through vpn

I am unable to map a network drive through a VPN to my work. It just
can't seem to find the shared folder. I know the server is good and
the shared folder is available since I am the administrator of that and
many more servers.

I can connect through Remote Desktop after accessing the gateway but no
drive mapping can be done from the Run command or Map Network Drive.

I think there is a service not running on my home computer but don't
know what to look for.

This is often a case of not obtaining AD name resolution. Simply being able
to ping a NetBios name is not enough.

Make sure in your client VPN connection that you are using your Internal AD
DNS server's IP. Either manually, or via DHCP, however you are obtaining
your VPN IPs.

One common mistake is to configure the VPN server to pass out your ISPs DNS
servers. That is not gonna work for drive mapping to private IP space within
the VPN.

I found out today that port has been shut down by the domain
administrators to prevent uploading of malware. The hint was dropped
that there are ways around it but it requires someone who is computer
savvy. They would not provide anymore details. I guess I am not savvy
enough to figure it out on my own.

Does anyone know how to map a network drive through VPN to my PC at
home?
