Mapped drives in XP Pro

there is one thing I want to know. Why on this earth
would microsoft design windows XP Pro not to reconnect
mapped network drives on startup. I read an article in
the knowledge base that said this was designed like this.
Will there be a fix in the future to allow mapped drives
to be recognized at startup?

Someone on this thread suggests putting an entry in the hosts file but I've
not tried it...

Quote:
The reason for this is because the WINS browser service (or whatever it is),
is taking a long time to locate shared network resources. You can
circumvent this by adding the machines IP's and hostnames to the hosts file
located in this path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc Add each machine in
like the examples listed in the file, and this should improve the browse
time. Or you can right click > explore this location on the "My Network
Places " which should open up a new window with the Entire Network subgroup.

Perhaps an MVP could comment on the above? or perhaps it would be possible
to write a script to reconnect?
