mapped drives disconnect after no activity

I have 5 pc's on a P2P workgroup with 4 pc's running XP Pro and one pc
running Win 2k Pro. The W2k pc is used as a server/workstation and all other
pc's are clients. We have our Quickbooks data on the server pc and all other
pc's use a mapped drive to the QB data folder.
The problem is that about every 15 minutes of no activity the mapped drives
disconnect leaving the ole red X over the mapped drive. After a couple
clicks the drive reattaches and access is restored. Sometimes the mapped
drives disconnect while in use.
We have been working on this problem for 3 months now. We NEED HELP.

We have tried the follow suggestions-most of which came from the MS
knowledge base.
1 - configured NIC for 100mbs rather than use the auto config option
2 - Selected Netbios over TCP/IP in WINS
3 - Disabled autodisconnect using the "net config server" command
4 - Disabled computer browser service on all XP machines

Nothing has worked. Additionally we are using a D-Link wireless router on
our network to connect to a wireless notebook. All other connections are via
Ethernet.
The problem is bigger than just dropping mapped drives. Our network
connection is temporarily disconnected while using Outlook or IE6.

I have read many threads related to W2k and XP networked together with
similar problems, but none of the suggestions have worked for our problem.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Try opening the Local Security Policy via secpol.msc on the W2K computer acting as
the server and go to security settings/local policies/security options and set the
option for amount of idle time required before disconnecting session and set it to
zero from the default 15 minutes which will then indicate do not disconnect clients.
After finishing run " secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce on the W2K
computer. -- Steve

I had a similar problem after installation of Norton Anti-virus on the
workgroup PC's with only one computer out of 6.

The culprit was DirectCD installed on that PC. Updating that solved this
problem.

I'm sure it's a L O N G S H O T.

Thanks for the tip Steven. However, it did not help. Turns out this is the
same thing as typing "net config server /autodisconnect:-1" from a command
prompt.
I am not sure what direction to go now. If you hear of anything else,
please let me know.

I have this issue on several client machines in several networks, and
making the auto disconnect alteration has not helped solve the problem
in a single one of them :(

This interferes with applications accessing shared resources and users
complain endlessly. I need to find a fix :(
