Map to an FTP server/directory

as a windows network drive letter. I.e. want to be able to map to an FTP
server so that I can refer to it the same way I do to network drives that
have been mapped using a letter designation.

Can that be done in w2k or later without the use of an FTP client? I know
about clients like WebDrive that do just that but have some issues with it
when accessing the server with RDP which causes it to hang. Does any windows
version have that functionality build into it?

You can manually create a "network place" that points to an ftp site. It
won't function as a drive, but it will give you a single icon to
double-click and open.
