Manual vs Scheduled scan differences

MSAS is one of the automated tasks that run on the machine in the early
hours of the morning and on this scheduled scan it scans some 40,000
files, but,if the scheduled scan doesnt run for some reason and I run a manual
scan it only scans 20,000 files.Anybody know why the difference?

Hi Mike;
Your manual scan must be either a Quick Scan or your not scanning the entire
volume(s). Make sure you open Scan Options, have Run a full system Scan and ALL
sublines checked, and click the folder icon next to Select... to ensure that the
scan is really what you want not just a subset of your harddrive. Also be sure
that Save these Options is checked. Then hit Run Scan Now...

If that doesn't do the 40,000, get back to us.

Sorry Dave, but the manual scan is a full system scan.Exactly the same
settings that are used for the scheduled scan.

OK Mike, let me try to replicate it here. There was another report of this
today over on the announcements forum:
"Re:MS antispyware don't find anything!" by SwathingScientist
Thanks for the feedback, I'll see if it happens to me also.

Interesting catch Mike;
Here's my results:

-Manual Scan:
Memory threats detected: 0\2523

Threat files detected: 0\59099

Registry threats detected: 0\9433

Cookie threats detected: 0\0

Total scan time: 20 mins 24 secs

-Scheduled Scan:

Memory threats detected: 0\2418

Threat files detected: 0\79361

Registry threats detected: 0\9433

Cookie threats detected: 0\0

Total scan time: 12 mins 1 secs

So, another missing 20K+ of files on back to back scans, same processes running.
Anyone else want to try... or guess?
Don't you love a mystery?

Dave,Thanks for checking it out. That 20k seems to be a common factor
regardless of how many files there are in total.I dont have any ideas about
cause though. Will keep watching this space.

OK - you've got me. I seldom look closely at the scheduled scan results
except for the # of items found which is normally zero.

I'll check this out some, but about all I can say is that, whatever is going
on--whether its a reporting bug or something else, it is unlikely to be
fixed in beta1, which I hope won't survive the end of this year.

I do see another anomaly in Dave M's stats--the time involved--which is
shorter for the scheduled scan which supposedly looked at more files!
