Manual removal of NAV 02

I recently upgraded my computer from Win Me to Win XP.
Prior to the upgrade, I removed Norton Internet Security
from the system. After I upgraded, I tried re-installing
into Win XP, and it said it could not be done due to
another version on the system. (NAV 2002)

I am assuming this is the one that came OEM (pre-
packaged) on my Dell Dimension when I got it, and Win XP
has those files saved somewhere.

It doesn't show in the Add/Remove programs for me to
uninstall, and when you click on it in the Programs list,
it just says that it can't boot until restarting the
system --which doesn't work.
I need to get my system protected, but can't do so until
I figure out a way to get this off of my system. I have
been to Symantec's website, but cannot seem to find the
correct article in the knowledge base.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Especially
if you have encountered this problem. I don't want to
mess with the Registry unless I absolutely have to.
