manual enter (return key)

When I enter a manual return several line spaces are inserted into my
document, automatically. I have it set for single line spacing. It is
almost like it is putting serveral spaces between paragraghps. How do I fix
this?
 
Check Format | Paragraph to make sure that there is no Spacing Before/After.
If that is not the problem, make sure that vertical alignment is set to Top
and not Justified on the Layout tab of Page Setup.
