How do I globally clear manual line breaks?

The author of an original document formatted the document with manual line
breaks (using the enter key) and manually spacing after tabs instead of tab
indenting. I am cutting and pasting his text into a new document and I need
to globally remove all the manual line breaks and extra spaces that occur
between words and between tabs and words. "Clear formatting" takes care of
removing some formatting, but doesn't remove manual line breaks.
