A guy reported on a community website forum how to convert Windows Home
Edition into XP Professional by modifying XP . But is it legal to do so ?
He said his adjustments unlock Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Home
Edition . Am I allowed to try that ?

-snicker- If he wants you to send him money for the "secret", don't. The
only way to "convert" Home Edition into Pro Edition is by purchasing a
Pro Edition upgrade and installing it.

Bogus info! The only way to upgrade to Windows XP Pro
is to "purchase" a "Retail Version" of Windows XP Pro.

I think I must have seen that post on that community board as a bit of
hogwash . How about the method described on a magazine cd's explaining how to
slipstream Windows XP with SP2 onto a Windows with SP1 Cd or however that is
accomplished ? Isn't that reverse engineering ? I would like to try it , I
think it means to update XP with SP1 to XP with SP2 and copy it to another CD
.. Still against M's Ula...how do you spell that word..........too lazy .

There is no problem slipstreaming SP2 into an XP Gold or SP1 disk. I use
AutoStreamer, but there are other methods:

http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.html
- AutoStreamer
http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49
http://www.windows-help.net/windowsxp/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm

Please note that slipstreaming will not magically turn your Home Edition
into a Pro Edition.

He lied. The only way to turn WinXP Home into WinXP Pro is to perform
an upgrade using a WinXP Pro installation CD.

Quite possible to do this to the "core" OS (though you'll be missing many of
the bits and pieces, such as they are, that are available in XP Pro but
absent from XP Home).

Utterly against the terms and conditions of your licence, of course.

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)" despite being prompted several times in the
past.
